Happiness Is A Choice

Some people with the worst pasts create the best futures. This is because they make a choice to be happy. How often do people say they want to be happy and meet the day with ungratefulness and complaints? If you want to be happy - YOU have to practice!

Happy people practice:

  • being grateful
  • looking for the good in every situation
  • focusing on solutions vs problems
  • making changes when needed
  • being good to others
  • managing their own life vs controlling others
  • setting goals vs dreaming
  • pausing to plan their behavior
  • working at something meaningful
  • reflecting

Most often in therapy sessions, I find myself stating the obvious but the person who practices unhappiness can not see what they are doing to maintain their misery. It is hard to hear that you contribute to your own happiness but most often - happiness is yours to have if you would just get out of your own way. Practice and be patient.
