Getting To The Core
Sometimes, the problem that you think has you stuck is NOT IT at all. That is why sharing your thoughts with another is often most helpful. Having a trusted friend is the best medicine because they can identify and say some things that you may not accept from others. I ran into my core problem this week (again) and started ranting to a friend and she made me PAUSE...I yelled at her and told her she was wrong but she was RIGHT. She smacked me in the forehead with some words that made me cry but then brought me to an awareness that made me embrace the challenge. The more times you embrace the challenge and fight those negative core beliefs - the more you win. And, I am a winner.
If you don't know your core beliefs, try this. Write down everything you do for one whole day. Then, ask yourself, "Why do I do this?" and you will uncover core beliefs (aka "shoulds"). These are your operating beliefs and if you don't do what you should do, you WILL feel guilt, frustration, anger, depression, anxiety. These came from your past and some influential person told you "this is the way to operate" and you believed them. So, now you do it as a habit and have little awareness. The really cool thing is - you get to design your own life and your old "shoulds" don't have to travel with you. It is much healthier to say "I will or I won't" because there is hidden power in those words. It's your life - it's your happiness. Practice your power!
