What the What?
Why exactly are curse words bad? These are words we made up and we give them the meaning and power they have. This is one of the tools I use in therapy daily. If I edit a person when they are sharing their feelings with me - do you think they are going to a) feel judged, b) reserve their real feelings for someone else, c) edit and pretend or d) all of the above? You guessed it (d) is the correct answer. And, that would help me fail in every aspect of helping.
Does that mean that I don't offer them suggestions on where and when it may be more appropriate to curse, the risks you take when you use those words and how to be heard without cursing? Absolutely, but who am I to say what word describes their situation or emotion best?
And, that is why I often get a whole lot of truth which allows me to address real problems quickly. Therapy is for the client - not for me.
