The challenges that face children today are too many to count.   As a parent, family member or teacher, we are called to watch out for and teach many things.  I remember being very afraid to be a parent for the first time and my doctor told me just before giving birth "pay attention and they will teach you what you need to know.".   Some of that is true and I did learn to trust my instinct but today there are many challenges that may require specific education and support.  Do not be afraid to ask for help - it takes a village to raise a healthy child.  

Our schools are attempting to tackle some of these issues but it is usually "after the fact".  I have many beliefs about the changing school systems but I think they are missing a HUGE piece that could make a difference in every aspect of a child's life.   If we teach children how to manage their thinking, feeling and behavior - these challenges would be minimized greatly.   This can be accomplished with a few simple lessons that can be woven through the curriculum and actually save time, energy, decrease the need for medication for children, greatly reduce discipline problems and strengthen communities.
